Martial activities will include fencing, heavy combat, Thrown weapons, and archery.

Heavy Weapons

Lord of the White Hart:The Honorable Lord Vladimir Mechnik and his Lady Tommasa Isolana

Who inspires you to great deeds? Who’s opinion matters above all others? For whom would you move the world? Who has placed their honor on your mighty arms? Come show the world and all those gathered at the Tournament of the White Hart XVI the valor, honor, and skill at arms of the warriors of Æthelmearc!

This year the Lord and Lady of the White Hart, wish to invite all ladies and consorts to sit on their grand gallery, for love is a unique experience that can be witnessed by all eyes. The gallery will have a format for interaction with the combatants and will consist of declarations of inspiration done by both combatant and then consort. Subsequent rounds will alternate between questioning by the gallery, and then the combatants asking question to the gallery. All represented consorts, with the aid and wisdom of former ladies of the White Hart and her Royal Majesty, will collectively decide upon who will become the next Lord and Lady of the White Hart.

Fencing

Defender of the White Hart: Lord Richart Parion

Yea, all good gentles who honor chivalric inspiration and value the Arte of Defense, burnish your blades and join the field of noble competition for the sixth Defender of the White Hart tournament. We welcome you to extoll the virtues of the one who inspires you and display your prowess vying against your comrades in arms. The victor of the day shall be awarded the regalia of the post of Defender for a year and the honor of hosting the tournament to choose a successor at the next White Hart event.

Our tournament this year has special significance as we honor Lord Richart Parion, the Fifth Defender of the White Hart, who was lost to us in a tragic accident. He was a boon and mirthful companion, who presented an ever daunting challenge to all fortunate to cross blades with him. The hosting of this tournament was to be his duty, and we ask those that will join us to raise their blades in honor of his memory. As Lord Parion was an avid and accomplished foil fencer, we ask that those who are authorized in Light Rapier to please bring these additional arms for your first pass in the tournament and fight inspired by his example.

Archery

Yeoman of the White Hart: Master Brandubh ò Donnghaile

Unto all students of the Art of the Bow, wax your strings and sharpen your arrows! The Tournament of the White hart this year celebrates the union of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain, who together raised a great army and reclaimed the lands of Spain to become a world power.

The Yeoman of the White Hart is a leader of Archers, and so this year the Yeoman’s competition will take on a military theme. The shoots will consist of long distance shots at enemy soldiers, hunts for beasts to feed the army, and games of chance to keep the archers’ mind and aim sharp on long campaigns. So dust off your equipment from its winter rest and join us on the Archery Range at White Hart.

Thrown Weapons

This year his lordship Petr Kotok will be hosting thrown weapons activities. He will be doing demonstration and instruction through out the day as well as hosting a small tournament.

Artisan of the White Hart – Master Robert the Gray

This year, the Artisan of the White Hart will be chosen by the entrants in the competition! Each entrant will judge other entries (on a simple scale of 1-10). Their Royal Majesties will be able to award additional points based on the best representation of this year’s theme, The Day of St. George.

The day of St. George is celebrated in many countries, however the Spanish in Catalonia make it a grand celebration. The tradition celebration began in the beginning of the 15th century, where tales of St. George began to influence the idea of a literal “knight in shining armor.” It is said that St. George slew a dragon to save a princess. Where the blood was spilled, a rose grew from the ground, representing love. This has inspired the tradition of giving roses to loved ones and more modernly, giving a book to them as well.

Documentation is not required but will be a plus of course. For easy documentation you may certainly use http://larsdatter.com/ezdoc/

Classes at White Hart

THL Marija Kotok will be hosting a discussion on information useful for those who are just getting started in the scribal arts. This class will be hosted in the back hall on Friday at approximately 7:00pm.

If you would be interested in teaching a class on either Friday or Saturday at White Hart, please get in contact with the autocrats of the event. Their information can be found by clicking here.

This year there will be a children’s quest. Each child that wishes to participate will receive a chord necklace at the beginning of the quest. Then participants must travel around to different stations, completing tasks for the quest givers. Upon completion of a task, a token will be awarded, which is then hung from the necklace. The tasks will each represent a different facet of the SCA. There will be a different token for service tasks, Art & Sciences, and for martial activities. Quest givers will be marked by a blue sash worn across their chest.

The children’s quest will take place on Saturday only and will conclude prior to court that evening. Each child that participates will receive a price for the completion of any activity. The child that completes the most activities to earn the most tokens, will receive a special prize to be given during court.

A special “children’s schedule” will be available on this site and at troll. This will let both children and parents know when different activities will be made available for children to participate in. Due to other activities, there are limitations on both time and space, which makes it impossible for certain quest stages to remain open all day.

Children’s Activities

Any child (14 and under) wishing to take part in the Children’s Challenge must first obtain a necklace from the Quest giver’s at the Children’s Table. The Challenge is to collect as many different tokens as you can at multiple stations set up around site. Individuals in the SCA are recognized for their art, martial prowess, and service. Each station will focus on giving children a chance to learn and take part in each of these pieces of the SCA.

- A flower token is awarded for Martial participation

- A nautical symbol is awarded for service

- A green heart token is awarded for A&S participation

The following schedule is for children’s activities. Certain stations are time limited and only open for small period of time.

Children’s Activity Schedule

9:30– Children’s Activity table opens

This table distribute A&S tokens and will include:

- shield/heraldry design

- Favor Making

- Fairy Bracelets

- Egg decorating

11:30– Archery and Thrown Weapons range opens. Children are encouraged to participate and watch demonstrations to receive a martial token

12:30– Footwork class with Fencers. Participate and learn basic foot work used by fencers to receive a martial token

1:00– Egg Jousting Tournament. Winner receives a martial token

2:30 – Children Activity Table Closes

Service tokens can be earned in several different ways. You can earn them incidentally by helping someone. Or you can go on a Quest, given by the people who are working at the Children’s table.
